Short description
The Interdenominational Theological Center (ITC), located in the heart of Atlanta, Georgia, is a unique institution in the landscape of higher education, particularly among Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Founded in 1958, the ITC was established as a collaborative effort of several different denominations to form a consortium that would enhance the study of theology and religion among African Americans. This innovative approach to theological education marked a significant moment in the history of religious studies and African American education in the United States.
As a 4-year, private, historically black denominational Christian seminary, the Interdenominational Theological Center offers advanced Master’s and Doctorate degrees. With an enrollment of around 193 students, the ITC provides an intimate and focused academic environment. The center's curriculum is designed to cater to a diverse range of Christian denominations, reflecting its founding principles of interdenominational cooperation and theological diversity.
The campus, set in an urban environment, does not offer campus housing. The ITC's focus on a serious and profound engagement with theological education and ministerial preparation upholds its mission of developing Christian leaders who are intellectually rigorous, spiritually grounded, and committed to social justice, making significant contributions to the religious and broader communities.
